‘The genius behind Steve’ – Fortune Magazine

Fortune magazine recently ran a cover story about Steve Jobs. The article deals with the health issues that Jobs has been facing, how Apple and the media are handling it, and Tim Cook, the interim boss of Apple. It’s a good read.

Hillary calls up Zardari

Hillary clinton, the new US Secretary of State called up the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday. You can imagine how the conversation must have gone. Zardari would have tried to flirt with Clinton telling her how pretty she looks and how she does not deserve to be married to a cheat of a husband. He then would have tried to get an appointment with her with a political pretext, only to try and steal a kiss out of her.

Or they could have just discussed foreign policy.

Flipping Typical

Flipping Typical is a neat website that allows you to checkout what your text will look like on the web with various fonts. It only uses fonts that you have installed on your computer. But the implementation is so simple, aesthetic, and functional, that its a real pleasure using this website. Even if it’s just to play around with some text and try and see if you can come up with something interesting.

A homage to the Flash preloader

Prettyloaded.com is a website that pays homage to one of the things that bugs me most on the web – Flash preloaders. I just spent a good 30 minutes going down ‘preloader memory lane’! What a fantastic (and inspiring!) new archival resource.

I suppose this doesn’t bug me so much when confined to a website of its own, rather than taking up half a minute to load a website. Definitely worth checking out this website.

Bicycle rental in Mumbai, India

I’ve been planning to start something like this for a while now. Also had a few discussions with a friend about this. But the idea didn’t even get to the design boards. Now a firm in Mumbai has started something quite similar. Eco Move Solutions has started a bicycle rental with over 40 stations across the city. I’m sure as hell gonna call these guys the next time I fly out to Mumbai.

Steve Job’s health – how the media screwed up royally

Read this article on Newsweek recently about how the media screwed up the Steve Job’s health story. Dan Lyons, who we know as Fake Steve, the author of this fantastic piece, explains how the media, like all Apple fanboys (myself included), worships the ground that SJ walks on. It’s quite scary if it’s accurate. Definitely a good read.

Specialization is for insects

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

Added a ‘city info’ section to Pondicherrycity.com

Added a new section to Pondicherrycity.com yesterday. It’s called “city info“. As of now it’s mostly under construction, but it has the following info:

A photo and video gallery where I will upload my own pictures on Pondi as well as user contributed stuff, a media section where I will add newspaper or magazine articles as well as news clips on Pondicherry. There’s a history section where I want to have a nice bit of info on the past of Pondicherry. And last, there’s a Eco section where I want to list some of the environmental and social NGOS in and around Pondicherry that I think people could contribute to or even help out during their stay.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Introducing the new and improved MacBook Pro 17″

Apple introduced the long-awaited MacBook Pro 17″ during the Macworld 2009 keynote yesterday. Some major changes include a built-in battery that Apple says will last up to 8 hours. This baby starts at about $2799 US.

Makes me wanna just hit the “buy now” button. Damn you Apple, you make me so greedy!
